In my childhood I was fortunate to have lived in many different cultures. I continued the exploration of varied points of view by doing my undergraduate degree in South Asian Studies. My wife and I made our living creating batiks for a number of years before I received a Master in Fine Arts in sculpture from San Francisco State University. I have particularly enjoyed creating site specific pieces and have received grants to do several that worked with healing to the land through sculpture.
When I fist started working with metal in 1978 and discovered how malleable it is, I was immediately hooked. It appears so hard and unforgiving, but while it is as shapeable as clay it then retains that shape. I’ve been more comfortable working in three dimensions as I tend to dance my art - Feeling it’s movement through both the visual and energetic planes.
